Picture Dictionaries
- The PDF on the left below is a FRENCH-ENGLISH Picture Dictionary grouped by themes. There are sections on animals, food, verbs and many more! We have used various picture dictionaries at school, but we have not used this specific one. Once your child becomes more familiar with it, he or she should be able to use it fairly independently while writing.
- The link on the right below is a one-page list of high frequency words for writing, much like our "Word Wall" in the classroom. Your child will have quick reference to the words he or she wants to spell.
- The short, themed picture dictionaries below each have a printable version which is sometimes in colour, sometimes in black & white and sometimes has both options.

Here are some sentence starters to help you begin writing:
Feelings & Thankfulness - Je me sens... (I feel...) - Je peux... (I can...) - Merci pour... (Thank you for...) - Je suis reconnaissant(e) pour... (I am thankful for...) |
Favourites (Colours, Animals, Activities...) - J'aime... (I like...) - Mon __________ préféré est.../Ma __________ préférée est... (My favourite __________ is...) |
Here are some vocabulary posters to help with writing about feelings in your journal. Source: Learning French with Elly
Story
Here are two different story writing templates. The shorter one has three parts and the longer one has six parts. If you do not have a printer, feel free to have your child copy the template on a blank page or make up their own similar template. The idea is to write a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. The template is meant to help guide that process, but not to limit it.
