Ingredients- 1 Sight Word Book - To return when each list is “mastered”
- 1 Envelope with Books - To return any day of the week - 1 Monthly Agenda Calendar - To record minutes read each day (200 minute goal/month). Prizes will be given to students who meet this goal at the end of each month. - 1 Set of Dictée Words – Available on this website each week |
Preparation Time- For best results, try to read the sight word book and envelope books 5 times in a week.
- Dictée words should be practiced as often as you see fit for your child to succeed on the weekly test. -10 minutes of homework per grade level is a good guideline, meaning 10 minutes a night is a great goal for your grade one student. - Keep scrolling for instructions and tips from the chef. |
Instructions
- Help your child to read the words of the first list in the sight word booklet. Videos to help with pronunciation are found on the website, under FRENCH, then G1 SIGHT WORDS . Whenever your child is “ready”, put the book in your child’s agenda and write us a quick note to let us know they are ready to be tested. That way we can check to see that they have mastered the list.
- A good target is to aim to master a list in about 2 weeks but each child learns at their own pace.
- The envelope books can be returned and exchanged any day of the week. On the website, there is also a link to another online reading program that we have access to this year. It will read to your child in French, or you can turn off the sound and your child can read along as they develop their reading skills.

Tips from the Chef
- This “recipe” has been designed to improve letter-sound knowledge (the weekly dictée), build a sight word vocabulary (sight word lists), and develop fluency (envelope books), through the combination of all 3 components.
