V I D E O S & I D E A S
The following videos and ideas are meant to support dictée practice at home in a number of ways:
1) Use the videos to verify the correct spelling and pronunciation for the words on our weekly lists.
2) Mimic our in-class dictée tests by playing and pausing the video while your child writes the words he/she hears. You will want to turn the screen away from him/her so he/she is only focusing on the audio component.
3) Get inspired by the list of fun ways to practice. Working on the dictée should not be boring! Choose one or two fun ideas to try out each week.

Fun Ways to Practice
Writing: *It is helpful if your child can listen to the word, then write it. - Write out the dictée words using a pencil. Then use smelly markers to trace the words. Or use regular markers to trace the words with a colour pattern or in a rainbow. - Say the letters of the word as you write them. - Spell the dictée words using small objects around your house and/or yard: dry pasta, toothpicks, lego, coins, pebbles, twigs, etc. - Write the words on cue cards or small pieces of paper and decorate them. - Spell the words in a tray filled with sand or salt. Reading: - Say the letters in the word, then read the word. - Clap the syllables of the word. - Play games with the words on cue cards: (1) Hide the cards around the house and then hunt for them. When you find a card, read the word on it. (2) Make two of each word and play memory. Every time you turn a card over, read the word. *If you find more fun ways to practice, let me know and I will add your idea here for others to try! |
